Windows 11 has dozens of productivity features that most users never discover. Here are the ones that can make the biggest difference in your daily workflow.
Snap Layouts and Snap Groups
Hover over the maximize button on any window to see Snap Layout options — predefined arrangements for 2, 3, or 4 windows side by side. Pick a layout, then select which window goes in each position. Windows remembers your Snap Groups, so you can switch between arrangements from the taskbar.
This is a game-changer for anyone who works with multiple applications simultaneously. No more manually resizing and dragging windows around.
Virtual Desktops
Press Win+Tab to access Task View, where you can create multiple virtual desktops. Use one for work email and documents, another for your browser and research, and a third for communication apps. Swipe between them with four fingers on a trackpad, or use Ctrl+Win+Left/Right arrows.
Each desktop can have its own wallpaper, making it easy to identify which workspace you're in at a glance.
Focus Sessions
The Clock app includes Focus Sessions — a built-in Pomodoro timer that integrates with Spotify and Microsoft To Do. Set a focus period, and Windows will silence notifications, minimize distractions, and track your focus time. It's a simple but effective productivity boost.
Voice Typing
Press Win+H anywhere you can type to activate voice typing. Windows 11's speech recognition is surprisingly accurate and supports punctuation commands. Say 'period,' 'comma,' or 'new line' to format as you speak. It's faster than typing for emails and messages.
Clipboard History
Press Win+V to access clipboard history — a list of everything you've copied recently. You can pin frequently used items (like email signatures or common responses) so they're always available. This feature alone can save you significant time if you regularly copy and paste.
Quick Settings Customization
Click the system tray icons (Wi-Fi, volume, battery) to open Quick Settings. Click the pencil icon to add or remove toggles. Add shortcuts for Bluetooth, Night Light, Focus Assist, or other settings you frequently adjust. It's a small customization that adds up to real time savings.
